We had a quiet Memorial Day weekend, planted some flowers, cooked and quilted.
I planted some Vinca by the the side of the garage, beat Joe to the spot! :)
Last year he planted eggplant and added a wooden support around the
plants to keep them from falling over. UGLY!!! I hated to see that every
time I came home. Anyway, this year I rushed to add some color to the yard.

I also added a couple of hanging baskets on either side
of the garage door. I've never had these flowers before and
I'm not quite sure what they are. We shall see how they do over
the summer.

The last few days I've been quilting up a storm trying to finish the
hand quilting on the I Spy tumbler quilt I've been working on. I wanted to
finish this one before I start hand quilting the airplane quilt. I finished up today
and just have to trim the batting and sew on the binding. Yea! I've been
working on this one for a long time.
This picture shows the last few stitches I had to do.
I already have two or three quilts planned for when I finish the
airplane quilt. Can't wait to get those started! :)

The other day Jeanne (one of the girls from work) and I drove over to
JoAnne's to pick out the fabric she wanted to use for a quilt she
has asked me to make for her. She and a few girls are going
to give one of our co-workers a baby quilt. He is expecting
his first child in June.
We had lots of fun picking and choosing the prints we would use.
When we got to the 7th and 8th fabric for our choices it
did get a little hard, I eventually decided to not use them and
found one print from my stash that would be a better choice.
I believe some of these are Debbie Mumm fabrics.
I stitched them in strips of varying widths.
Then I made an applique of an airplane and will
buttonhole stitch them down.
I'm anxious to see how this works out.

Happy Birthday, Daniel!

Yesterday was my oldest son's 27th birthday!

He and Josh drove here from Chicago to celebrate
Mother's Day with me and to celebrate his 27th!
We went to lunch yesterday before their trip home by having
lunch at BSpot, a trendy hamburger joint. Anthony and Liz were able to
have lunch with us also.

Lunch was very good. I had a hamburger with pineapple, spam and
swiss cheese. We were all so hungry we forgot to take any photos of the
delicious burgers! Anyway, the boys were repulsed by the spam
on my burger (LOL!) but it was very good. I may try to make it at home.
I understand the restaurant is owned by Michael Symon, who
is part of the Iron Chef show.

After lunch I had some time to kill before my hair appointment and
decided to go for a walk and view the ducks at one of our local parks.
There weren't too many ducks around but I did see one mama duck
taking her babies out for a cruise on the pond. She kept a very fast pace around the
pond and all her little babies kept up with her! It was fun to watch them paddle
so furiously to keep up with her.

Happy Mother's Day!

This is a photo from many, many years ago.
A four generation picture with my grandmother, Catherine,
my mother, Virginia,
me, and my first child, Nancy.
Oh, the memories.

Friday Flowers

Our backyard is usually wet in the spring,
or at least damp. I've ruined many shoes walking
back there not realizing it was too wet until it
was too late. Well, the other day it was nice and dry so I
wandered back there to check and see what plants
we have left. (My husband is always pulling up stuff.)
I love my peonies and was hoping he hadn't gotten tired of
them and ripped them out. I found them doing ok,
even found an ant on one of the flower heads.
My grandmother always had peonies and I love them. We don't have
all that much room to keep too many of them. I would probably have fields of them if I could!
She always said that if you
don't have ants on the bushes, you won't get flowers. So I was
quite glad to see a few ants on the peonies.

Joe also has planted these beautiful flowers right up along the
whole back of the house. I have no idea what they are but this year they
turned out gorgeous!

On Wednesday when I came home I found a box in by the
front door. In it I found some very sweet and pretty roses.
My oldest son, Daniel, sent me these for Mothers Day!
Wasn't that sweet?
He knows I love flowers, after all I told both my boys that almost every
day when they were growing up! :)

I see you

Sunday, May 2, 2010

What a pretty sunrise this morning.
Then about 20 minutes after I took
this photo it started to rain, hard.
Luckily, it almost stopped when I had to
leave for work.

It did turn out to be a nice day.
Hope your day was nice too.
